Introduction

This website presents the program and the papers of the workshop of the International Network of Engineering Studies in 2012. The organizers of the workshop are Postdoc Andrés Valderrama and Professor Ulrik Jørgensen from the Department of Planning and Development at Aalborg University (Copenhagen Campus) with the support of the researchers of the Project Opportunities and Challenges for Engineering Education in Denmark – PROCEED. The general theme of the workshop is 'Challenges and Responses in Engineering'. The 14 contributions deal with the current, past and future challenges that the engineering profession is facing in different parts of the world, and how engineering institutions and schools have responded to these challenges. The contributions focus on developments in engineering practice as well as in engineering education. These include the framing of engineering approaches, the identity building processes in education as well as in practice, and the ways engineering visions are presented and are part of techno-scientific visions.
